What to Consider When Building a Garage

Building a garage is a big step you make to benefit your home and life. It might be overwhelming initially to consider what kind of garage you need. Most people will use a general contractor that will help them decide on different aspects of their garage project.

As a guideline, allow at least 2'–6" of clearance between the vehicle and any side obstacles. For example, a 24' extended garage is ideal for trucks, providing enough space to walk around easily. If you plan to park a trailer, consider higher ceilings and wide overhead doors to accommodate its height and width.

Think about the equipment you’ll use or store — you may need additional lighting for work areas and extra electrical outlets for tools or machinery. Some equipment might even require an upgraded sub-panel.
